Tour presentation:
Welcome to the “Learn & Ride” tour – Join me (Diogo Guerra: Self proclaimed instructor extraordinaire and National treasure) and a small group of riders to learn and train the most must-have off-roading skills, tackle the most common obstacles and make new riding buddies while we traverse the beautiful and diverse landscapes of Portugal…a perfect mix of learning and leisure!
Day 0 : Arrival
Riders are expected to arrive in Santarém the day before the event. In my FAQ page you can get instructions on how to get here coming from Lisbon.
This first night in hotel is included and so is the welcome dinner (around 7h30pm), an awesome opportunity for all of us to get to know each other and to savour some typical Portuguese delicacies as we talk about the details of the upcoming tour.
Day 1 : The training day
We’ll spend the day training essential skills like understanding traction, body positioning, emergency stops, hill climbing (and descending), etc. Everything we will need to make the best out of the upcoming tour. The difficulty and complexity of the exercises will be adjusted to the level and bikes of the participants, so you will certainly learn lots!
At the end of the day we return to Santarém for another dinner together and a good night’s rest
Day 2 : Riding through Alentejo (~170 Km)
Today we will ride East. Believe it or not, in less than 10km we will be off-road, riding in forests and the zig-zaggy golden trails of Alentejo along endless cork trees. We will probably cross paths with free roaming cows, sheep, goats, iberian pigs and even bulls… so keep your eyes open!
Lunch will happen in Montargil Dam, (a famous destination for sunday off-road riders) and in the afternoon the tracks will be slightly more challenging (and you will be ready for them, I am sure!).
At the end of the day we will be back to Santarém (no scheduled evening plans)
Day 3: Santarém – Nazaré/Peniche – Santarém (~190 Km)
On the 3rd day we will ride to the coast! Either to Nazaré (home to the World’s biggest surfable waves) or to Peniche (the most famous surf destination in Portugal). I really can’t decide which of these tracks is my favorite so we will chose together where to go!
Either way, there will be mountains, unforgetable views over the ocean as we ride on the cliffs, we will face sobe optional sand bits (proper sand with some chest hair, not like the one we’ve encountered on the first day :P) and I am sure you will be prepared for all that and will love it!
At the end of the day ride back in Santarém where sadly, the tour will be over. Those staying in Santarem one more night will be taken to the hotel (last night not included) and those leaving on that same day can have a shower back at my place before heading out.
